In Hyderabad, the year 2022 was marked by changing weather patterns. The summer was milder, while the monsoon arrived in a huge way and the temperature fluctuated between low and high levels during the winter.
Though the year began with the coldest minimum temperatures, the cold quickly dissipated, and February was a contrast, with heat searing the city between March and May.
The years 2016 and 2017 were the hottest, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius, and this summer proved to be more moderate, with the highest maximum temperature recorded being around 42 degrees Celsius.
However, unusual heat wave episodes occurred in April, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius for ten days. On April 30, the temperature reached 42 degrees Celsius. Higher summer temperatures (>45°C) were recorded in Uppal, Kapra, Qutubullapur, Serilingampally, Khairathabad, Shaikpet, Asifnagar, Bahadurpura, and Saidabad based on 2013-22 data. Temperatures in the remaining areas were 45°C.
This monsoon, the rain gods were especially generous to the state capital. It received 742.9 mm more rainfall than the average of 562.1 mm.
Following light rains in June, the season began to shift in July, with the city receiving a whopping 125% excess rainfall. The highest rainfall of the month was recorded between July 6 and July 13. While August ended with a deficit in rainfall, September saw the highest rainfall in over a decade.
Some areas received 9.1 to 12.7 cm of rain in three hours on September 26. Mehdipatnam was hit the hardest by 11.25 cm. On September 6, 2017, the highest rainfall of 9 cm in 24 hours was recorded.

The monsoon was delayed for a week before departing on October 22. Trimulgherry, one of the oldest suburbs, broke the monthly average on October 12 in just three hours. In October, the average rainfall is 107.7 mm, but the total rainfall that day was 122.8 mm.
The number of wet spells and heavy rainfall events has increased over the last 18 years, according to a report by the Telangana State Development Planning Society. It went on to say that the most rain fell in Patancheru, Ramachandrapuram, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Balanagar, Qutubullapur, Trimulgherry, Secunderabad, and Musheerabad.
Meanwhile, the city experienced an early taste of winter when temperatures began to fall in late October. The minimum temperature fell to 14.9 degrees Celsius on October 24, the lowest in 54 years. On October 26, the third-lowest temperature of 15.1 degrees Celsius was recorded.
During the Northeast monsoon season, which lasts from October to December, Hyderabad receives the most rain. However, October and November saw significant rain deficits. Minimum temperatures fell below 15 degrees Celsius last month.
