In KRMB meeting on May 10, Telangana to demand for equal water sharing figures

According to the latest reports, the Krishna River Management Board will be meeting on May 10. Along with 21 other items on its agenda, Telangana’s demand for a fair share of Krishna river water will be discussed at the meeting.

Despite serious objections to the current pattern of sharing on a 66:34 ratio between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the issue has yet to be addressed. Last year, the board maintained its ad hoc allocation of 66:34 ratio sharing between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. State irrigation officials insisted on a review of water sharing to address the unfair treatment.

Given that the new water year begins on June 1, the KRMB sought input from both riparian states. The meeting will also go over Andhra Pradesh’s objections to the Palamuru- Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project, as well as what it called the over utilization by Telangana State in minor irrigation sector to an extent of 45.66 TMC.

The meeting will discuss the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS)’s poor structural soundness, which has resulted in low yields for Telangana. The State’s demand for KRMB to halt work on the Veligonda project, as well as AP’s illegal drawls from Srisailam Dam to meet its irrigation needs beyond the basin, will be discussed at the meeting.
