Intellectuals urged Wakf Board to bring “Pension Scheme” for poor Muslims

Pushing the demand before the Wakf Board for the introduction of a ‘monthly pension scheme’ for senior citizens, disabled persons, and the poor from the Muslim community, the All India Majlid Inquilab-e-Millat (AIMIM) said “The initiative will play an important role in bringing economic stability among the vulnerable groups of the community thereby fulfilling the aims and objectives of the Wakf board itself.”

Explaining the paradigm of the demography of the old city during an exclusive interview to “Y-This News, the spokesperson of AIMIM M.A.Qavi Abbasi high court advocate said, “Out of 82 lakh population of the old city, he said, “Merely 5 to 8 percent families comes under the ambit of the above poverty line (APL) while the remaining families are still impoverished and having no access even to basic amenities. Leave alone having components of sustainable development such a proper and systematic education, centers for higher studies, support centers, and secured livelihood besides efficacious health care facilities with trained staff and specialists doctors in every locality.”

“There are, he further said, scores of families who can’t afford their day to day expenses as they are completely gripped under the clutches of poverty. Whatever they earned on a daily basis would not be sufficient enough to make their ends need. Moreover, a myriad number of girls in the old city, who attained the age of marriage, have not yet get married as their parents can’t afford the expenses being incurred on to solemnized the event.”

Demanding that the Wakf board should come up with a scheme of pension to poor, senior citizens, and disabled Muslim besides granting financial support for the marriage of girls from the families of poor background, he said “This will build a relationship between the people and Wakf board besides improving the tarnished image of the board among Muslims.”

Explaining that having few underrated schools, hospitals and clinics will not be able to provide the desired and effective sustainable development and the much needed therapeutic facilities to a large section of poor Muslim families in the old city, Prof.Ameeruddin, said: “The need of the hour is to focus on marginalized and underprivileged sections of the community through monetary support every month to pull them out of their state of misery.”

“The tainted Wakf Board is presently known for its murky deals and maladministration besides inefficiency in protecting the prime properties and lands that consecrated for the development of the Muslim Community. Not much of the community is getting benefitted with the board despite the fact that it is standing on a buried treasure of prime lands and properties all the way around state and beyond. It would be a nice idea if they come up with a pension scheme for old age citizens, disabled persons, and other poor sections of the community if the board really wants to wash its tainted face,” asserted Mohammed Imam Tahseen, social activist.
