Iran expand the list of US suspects in Qasem Soleimani assassination

Iran has increased the list of Americans suspected who are involved in the assassination of Qasem Soleimani, former commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ Quds Force.

Soleimani was the Iranian major general (IRGC) Islamic revolutionary guard corps, and he was the commander of its Quds force from 1998 until his death in 2020.

Soleimani was assassinated by a targeted U.S. drone strike on 3 January 2020 in Baghdad, which was approved by U.S. President Donald Trump.

The strike was strongly condemned by the Iranian government, and a multi-city funeral was held in Iraq and Iran for Soleimani and other casualties. Hours after his burial on 7 January 2020, the Iranian military launched a missile against U.S. bases in Iraq; while no lives were lost in the second attack, 110 U.S. troops were wounded as a result according to Pentagon reported.

According to Xinhua news agency quoted Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a senior foreign advisor to the parliament speaker, as saying on Sunday that “The number of the main accused in the assassination of Soleimani has increased from 45 to 48,”

Speaking at a press briefing about judicial measures regarding the case, Abdollahian voiced hope to see a court ruling “in the near future”.

The spokesman said that Iran has issued warrants in 6 countries to arrest the criminals. Abdollahian also said The revenge for killing the high commander is still the agenda of Iranian authorities.

The airstrike conducted on 3 January near Baghdad international airport killed Soleimani and also killed Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.

Tehran Prosecutor General Ali Qasi Mehr On June 29 announced that a case had been filed with the Interpol to arrest a number of US military and political officials “involved in the assassination.
