Jalpally Continue to Face Garbage Issue as Dumping Yard Still at Large

A highly contentious issue of garbage dumping yard in a densely populated area of Jalpally is to keep hunting the municipality officials as they face trouble in finding a suitable place to set up a facility that may help them get rid of the garbage disposal issue that often attracts resentment from the people.

Upto this point, the Jalpally municipality is not so lucky when it comes to its own dumping yard unlike other neighbouring municipalities like Shamshabad and Tukkuguda where the government lands were specifically allocated for dumping of garbage collected from the respective areas. Now, the second identified location on the trot too appeared won’t go well with the officials who wrote a letter to MRO Balapur requesting of a suitable area with sufficient space for the setting up of a dumping yard.

Spread over an area of 30 square kilometers with a mixed population of around 80,374 (as per 2011 census), this municipality was carved out in the year 2016 merging the areas such  as Jallapally, Balapur, Kottapet, and Pahadi Shareef carrying around 23,961 families. However, the dumping of garbage remains a daunting task for the authorities due to the want of a proper and suitable place to dump the trash.

Soon after changing the earlier location at Sultanpur area considering the objection of local people, the second spot was allotted at Ravirala in Maheshwaram on the Jalpally and Tukkuguda border and the team of officials also visited the spot to check the feasibility. However, this too was found impracticable later by the authorities as they argued that neither the place being identified for dumping yard is within the area of operation nor the one acre of allotted land is sufficient enough to carry out multi-tasking work of garbage management.

“Having divided into 28 municipal wards, this urban local body generates around 25 tons of garbage every day and nearly 80 members of the sanitary team form an entire sanitary wing. The land identified at Ravirala village is almost 20 kilometers away from the main area from where the vehicles source the trash. More so, the one acre of allotted land with 20 feet stretch on main road to make it a more congested place to transport the garbage as no driver would be willing to cart away the garbage with a gripe of fuel expenditure,” informed Kranthi Kumar, Manager Jalpally Municipality.

To cart away the trash, he said, we have a fleet of total 16 vehicles that include 12 autos and 4 tractors besides a gopher sewer machine and a newly purchased JCB. “However, for a hassle free garbage management system, the municipality needs a feasible and practicable space for setting up of a dumping yard with a multi tasking mechanism. Hence, we wrote a letter to higher officials seeking a suitable place with sufficient space for setting up of a dumping yard” explained the official.
