Jordan Warns Against Escalation Amid Intercepted Iranian Drones

Jordan’s Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh emphasized the necessity for all parties to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the region during remarks to the cabinet. He stated that any escalation could lead to dangerous outcomes and affirmed Jordan’s readiness to defend its security against any threat.

Reports indicate that on Saturday, U.S. air defenses, with support from the UK and France, collaborated with Jordan to intercept numerous Iranian drones and missiles heading towards Jerusalem and various targets in Israel. Among these were Iranian drones originating from Iraq and flying over southern Jordan towards Israel’s Eilat port.

Khasawneh reiterated Jordan’s commitment to responding to any actions that jeopardize its security and airspace, utilizing all available means. King Abdullah further emphasized to U.S. President Joe Biden in a recent phone call that Jordan would not allow itself to become a battleground for regional conflicts. He warned against Israeli escalation, noting its potential to exacerbate the conflict.

Situated amidst Syria, Iraq, and Israel, Jordan has expressed concerns about being drawn into conflicts involving Iranian proxy forces and Israel’s operations against groups like Hamas.
