Kalyana Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak Helps 4,66,729 Brides

Hyderabad: As many as 4,66,729  women  belonging to SC, ST, BC, EBC and Minority communities  have been benefited, till April 10 this year,   from the ‘Kalyana Lakshmi’ and ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ programmes launched  by the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao  during   2014-15 fiscal, to help them get married.  The kalyana lakshmi scheme is meant for SC,ST,BC and EBC girls, while the Shadi Mubarak for Minority community girls. This scheme has helped poor parents to get their daughters married. KCR was the first Chief Minister in the country to evolve the innovative scheme.

Under the scheme, the Government has extended a total assistance Rs.3,750 Crore to the eligible brides.  When the scheme was first introduced, an assistance of Rs.51,000 to each eligible bride was given, and later the amount was hiked to Rs.75,116.  In view of the ever increasing costs, KCR has hiked the amount to Rs.1,00,116 from this financial year.

Of a total of 5.57 lakh applications received for help under the scheme till April 10 this year, 4,66,729 were found eligible for the assistance and were given the amount.  (NSS)
