KCR Holds Meeting on Power, Water Row

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today instructed officials concerned to get ready with information for the Krishna water board meeting on water and power generation disputes.

He called a high-level meeting with officials at Pragati Bhavan here and discussed Palamur– Ranga Reddy lift irrigation project works and illegal irrigation projects works in AP.

Ministers, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, Irrigation special secretary Rajat Kumar, ENC Muralidhar, and others were present.

The Chief Minister took stock of the current situation on the water as AP Government sought the center’s intervention. KCR expressed disappointment at the AP Government for violating norms.

He asked the officials to fight for state share and power production in the Krishna basin. The officials concerned informed that the AP government is coming in the way of power generation and water distribution process.  They stated that the government of AP didn’t get permission and has been going ahead in violation of irrigation norms.

Construction of Rayalaseema lift irrigation project and Pothireddipadu expansion works are illegal as the NGT and the board had directed to stall, they clarified. Despite apex body directions, the AP government is continuing the related works illegally the officials said.

The state government has already urged the board to cancel its July 9 meeting and conduct a full member meeting at a later date. The Chief Minister himself urged the center to conduct the full member meeting by the Krishna board to hear power generation and water distribution cases.
