KCR meets PM Modi, discusses issues related to state

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release Rs 20,000 cr for the prestigious Kaleshwaram irrigation project in the state.

During his 50 minutes meeting with Modi in Delhi along with Chief Secretary SK Joshi, KCR has extended thanks to the Prime Minister for all permissions to the project and sought immediate release of the funds. The Chief Minister has submitted appeals on 10 key issues pertaining to the state including clearance for pending projects and separate High Court for Telangana.

The state government has already spent Rs 25000 cr for the Kaleswharam project and pooled up Rs 20,000 cr for it. This project is lifeline for the state as it brings about 18 lakhs of acres under irrigation in majority 18 districts besides catering to drinking water needs he explained.

He asked Narendra Modi to get approval by President Ramnath Kovind with amendments for new zonal system in the youngest state. The meeting assumes significance as the Chief Minister who has called on the prime minister after his federal front against the Congress and BJP at the centre in 2019 elections for qualitative change in politics. The Chief Minister informed to Modi as to why the state government gone in for a new zonal system followed by increasing districts to 31 for speedy governance and quality services to people.
According to information KCR has asked Modi to expedite the process of keeping up promises of bifurcation act including high court for Telangana and division of assets of 9 and 10thschedules and 12 per cent reservations for Muslims and STs.

The Chief Minister also urged Modi to take steps for completing Manoharabad-Kothapally, Akkannapet-Medak railway lines, survey for Kazipet-Karimnagar, and land for new Secretariat at Bison Polo grounds, financial assistance to backward districts in the state as per bifurcation act. Other issues he touched upon prominently include sanction of IIM to Telangana, assistance for ITIR set up in Hyderabad, increase of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. (NSS)
