KTR lauds Ichhoda school students for cultivating vegetables on school premises

Students at the Girls Residential School in Ichoda, Adilabad, are setting an example for their peers by cultivating vegetables on a one acre plot on the school premises.

According to reports, there are 270 students in the school and they are cultivating vegetables for the mid-day meals. Aside from that, they have planted guava, mango, and flowering plants on the school premises. The school officials assist students in taking up organic farming.

IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao tweeted about it, saying, “Glad that 270 girls studying at the Girls residential school in Ichoda of Adilabad district set a brilliant example.

These students cultivated a variety of vegetables & fruits in an Organic manner within one acre of their school premises, which they use for their consumption.”

The Minister also sought input on whether schoolchildren should be taught how to grow food as part of their education.

“Should our children be taught how to grow food as part of their schooling

I personally strongly believe it’s imperative that we do. Please share your thoughts & suggestions,” he asked.

Need to create more awareness among boys to respect girls: KTR

KT Rama Rao stressed the importance of creating more awareness among young boys to respect girls and women, failing which would be a great disservice to both girls and boys. This would also contribute significantly to the development of a society that values both men and women equally.

The Minister emphasised the importance of holding the gender sensitivity course, which the Education Department introduced into the high school curriculum. This would aid in sensitising children, and because results cannot be obtained overnight, he stated that it must be a continuous effort.

Speaking at a program to felicitate women in journalism here on Tuesday, the Minister said the success of women in all walks of life should be celebrated. This should not be confined to one day in a year but it should be done throughout the year, he said.
