Liquor shops in Hyderabad to be closed for two days due to Holi

On the eve of Holi festival, all liquor shops, including restaurants, bars, and pubs, will be closed for the next 48 hours. Orders have been issued in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits.

The stores will be closed from 6 a.m. today to 6 a.m. Saturday. Furthermore, playing Holi in public places was restricted by the officials. They also asked the public not to throw colours on strangers, vehicles, or buildings.

Tipplers, on the other hand, rushed to nearby bars after learning that wine shops would be closed for the next two days.

On Wednesday evening, long lines formed in front of the wine shops at the majority of the bars.

Non-toxic and eco-friendly colours for this Holi

Every year, around Holi, we see an increasing number of people opting for non-toxic and eco-friendly colours. The main reason for this is a growing awareness of how harmful synthetic and chemically made colours can be to our bodies and the environment.

Holy Waste, a Hyderabad-based organization, is creating non-toxic Holi colours from flower waste collected throughout the city. They collect and use leftover flowers from religious shrines, event venues, and local flower markets.

“In general, consumers are becoming more conscious and prefer safe colours. Because of the pandemic, this has been especially true in the last two years. There is also a sense of energy, and people want to get out and have fun. In fact, our facility has run out of stock,” says co-founder Maya Vikram.

Event organisers are also taking on the responsibility of going eco-friendly in order to attract the ever-increasing environmentally conscious crowd.

This Holi, major events include Lathmar Holi, RangeDe Hyderabad, and Khelo Holi. These events are mostly held in open spaces to accommodate larger crowds.
