Mahmood Ali condemns comments made by Raja Singh against Prophet Muhammad

After protests broke out across Old City against Raja Singh’s derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, the Telangana state home minister condemned the comments made by the now suspended BJP leader.

Telangana’s government is committed to maintaining peace and security, Mahmood Ali said. Further, he said that individuals who attempt to sow discord through their religious beliefs will face stringent action.

He said that as a result of Singh’s objectionable comments about Prophet Muhammad, complaints against the MLA have been received in several police stations in Hyderabad, and action will be taken in accordance with the law. In addition, he stressed that the law makes no distinction between race, religion, caste, or class. It is the law that works on its own, and no one is above it, he added.

Minister stated that everyone has the right to live according to their religion, caste, customs, and culture. No one will tolerate falsehoods or disparaging remarks about religion. A religious faith, religious teacher, or sentiment should not be denigrated or belittled by any other religion, he said.

The home minister strongly urged that no one be allowed to break the law and that Telangana’s people are a symbol of Ganga-Jamuna Tehjeeb (culture).

Raja Singh had earlier posted a video on YouTube on the Jai Shree Ram channel in which he passed derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad. He also abused comedian Munawar Faruqui and his mother two days after the comedian’s show in Hyderabad. Telangana’s BJP unit has also disassociated itself from his statements.

The party suspended Raja Singh for violating party rules after he released a video in which he made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

A number of people protested in the streets after his comment, calling for his arrest. Dabeerpura police booked the BJP MLA following his video. As a result of the protests on Tuesday, many people were also taken into custody by the police.
