March 8 Marks the Commencement of a New Era in the Old City

Telangana’s Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy, is set to lay the foundation stone for the Old City Metro rail project at Falaknuma on March 8, as announced by HMRL MD NVS Reddy. The Phase I Metro rail work, covering a 5.5 km stretch from MGBS to Falaknuma of corridor II Green Line JBS to Falaknuma, had not been initiated earlier.

Since assuming office, CM Revanth Reddy has prioritized the Old City Metro project, directing HMRL officials to expedite its implementation. The MD specified that the alignment will traverse through Darulshifa, Puranihaveli, Etebar Chowk, Alijakotla, Mir Momin Daira, Haribowli, Shalibanda, Shamsheergunj, Aliabad, and terminate at Falaknuma Metro Rail station as originally planned.

The route will feature four stations: Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Shalibanda, and Falaknuma. Despite being approximately 500 meters away from the monuments, two stations are named after Salarjung Museum and Charminar due to their historical significance.

Around 1100 properties will be affected by road widening up to 100 feet as per the master plan and up to 120 feet at station locations. The project, including road widening and utilities shifting, is estimated to cost about Rs 2,000 crore. The CM has instructed engineering solutions to ensure no religious or heritage structure is impacted during road widening or Metro Rail construction.

Additionally, the line will be extended by 1.5 km from Falaknuma to Chandrayangutta, establishing it as a major interchange station on the newly planned Airport line of Nagole – LB Nagar – Chandrayangutta – Mailardevpally – P7 Road – Shamshabad Airport.
