MCD pull down portion of mosque in Jahangirpuri, left temple unhurt

Moving on with its apparently partial clamp down against illegal establishments, the Delhi administration today pulled down a portion of Jama Masjid in Jahangirpuri locality, an area that rocked with communal violence few days ago and dragged the attention of whole country besides stirring a political debate over the blatant use of bulldozers to punish the rioters.

The mosque is the place where Bajrang Dal goons proved the local Muslims by resorting to stone pelting at the mosque on the occasion of m Ram Navami. The Bajrang Dal goons even tried to hoist a bhagva flag at the mosque by storming through the gate which was pulled down today by the district administration.

The officials of Delhi Administration reached the spot today morning along with bulldozers and started pulling down the gate on the main entrance of Jama Masjid under police protection.

To avoid any untoward incident, the Delhi Municipal Corporation even deployed a large number of police and paramilitary forces at the scene. It is said that the police and paramilitary personnel prevented the media persons from covering the incident.

The main gate, which was beautifully architecture with marble tiles, was said to have been pulled down without any prior notice or intimation.

As the heavy police and paramilitary forces were deployed at the spot, the local people were forced to remain confined in their houses while few Muslims were seen standing inside the mosque watching the destruction helplessly. It is said few other shops and establishments were also demolished by the Delhi municipal corporation.

It is found that MCD staff even seized the discarded iron profile sheets used as sheds on the shops and was demolished by the administration.

However, what comes as surprising for the locals is the partial attitude of the MCD which have demolished the portion of the mosque terming it as illegal encroachment over the road while exempting a temple a few metres away which also stood extremely on the road equally violating the MCD rules.

Local people were seen wanting frustration on MCD for showing such an alleged prejudiced attitude while taking up campaigns against encroachments.
