Meeting held between Hyderabad CP and Formula-E race organisers

With Hyderabad preparing to host India’s first Formula-E race on February 11 on the picturesque racing track around Hussain Sagar, City Police Commissioner CV Anand held a meeting with the organizers here on Friday.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), in collaboration with the Telangana government, is organizing the mega event, which is expected to attract 30,000 to 35,000 visitors from around the world.

The Formula-E delegation, led by Security Director Scott Anderson, began formal interactions with the city police chief and his deputies, expressing delight at seeing law-abiding citizens-cum-fans in Hyderabad, which is in stark contrast to the warring mob behavior at large events in some countries.

Discussions were held on the security deployment blueprint, traffic diversions, crowd management, contingency plans, and so on.

According to plans, the FIA will provide internal security in support staff operating areas and restricted areas with the assistance of Team Agile Group, a private security agency, while the Hyderabad Police will provide overall supervision and external security, which will include anti-sabotage check teams, bomb disposal squads, traffic management, and the deployment of other specialized units.

Aside from that, the police and other security partners will install CCTV cameras along the 2.8 km circuit track and make other necessary arrangements in due course.

Along with the event, the organizers intend to set up a fan village at People’s Plaza, for which additional security cover has been sought.

CV Anand has said that public safety is of the utmost importance, and there was a need for more ingress and exit points. “Strict tab has to be there in the internal movement and all points must be manned with adequate and trained personnel. We need to ensure the passes, tickets are tamper-proof,” he said.

The meeting also discussed the deployment of medical teams, fire trucks, and ambulances, among other things.

“Hyderabad joins in on the action for the first time. Hosting this flagship event in the State demonstrates the innovation, ambition and determination of the government to accelerate change towards an electric future,” the commissioner added.

Formula-E Season-9 begins on January 14, 2023 in Mexico, with Round 4 taking place on February 11, 2023 in Hyderabad.
