Metro dream in Vishakhapatnam likely to fulfilled in 2024

Vishakhapatnam:  The metro train dream of the Vishakhapatnam residents would likely to be fulfilled in another four years as Urban Mass Transit Company (UMTC) has already begun the exercise in this regard and initiated the works of the preparing the detailed project reports( DPRs) for light metro and tram corridors.

The officials of Amravati Metro Rail Corporation are active in preparing the estimated cost of the project. The construction of the light metro rail corridor is estimated to cost Rs 200 crore per kilometer, while the tram corridor is estimated to cost between Rs 100 crore and Rs 120 crore.

UMTC has agreed to submit the DPR for Light Metro to the Government by the end of November and the DPR for the Tram Corridor would be submitted to the Government by the end of December.

The government had handed over the task of the two DPRs and set a deadline of six months to complete them. However, due to the imposition of lockdown due to Covid-19, UMTC delayed the commencement of DPR works.

UMTC has agreed to submit the DPR for Light Metro by the end of November and the DPR for the tram corridor to the government by the end of December. To this extent, the DPR is being prepared with the expectation of the development taking place in the metro corridor route maps, the changes that will take place by 2050

The light metro project covers an area of 79.91 km. The Amravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) has prepared preliminary estimates on the cost of the project after studying the projects undertaken in different countries.
