Microsoft Appoints New CEO Satya Nadella After Bill Gates’s Step Down

Microsoft recently announced a new CEO appointment. The new CEO, Satya Nadella is the first one to have replaced John Thompson after two decades of holding the position.

New CEO Appointment Comes After A Year Of Bill Gates’s Step Down 

As per the latest updates, newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella is the first in two decades when Microsoft’s chairman will also be its CEO. Until now, Bill Gates was the only other Chairman and CEO of Microsoft who stepped down as CEO in 2000.

Following this, Gates stepped down as the chairman in the year 2014 to follow his philanthropic ambitions.Then the board elected John Thompson as the independent chairman.

Gates left the Microsoft board entirely last year.

CEO Satya Nadella To Set Agenda for the Board 

As the new CEO of the tech giant, Satya Nadella will work towards setting the agenda for the board. Further leveraging his deep understanding towards the business to elevate the right strategic opportunities, identify key risks and mitigation approaches for the board’s review.

Microsoft also unanimously elected John Thompson as lead independent director, a role he held previously from 2012 to 2014. As the Lead Independent Director, Thompson will have a significant authority towards providing input on the behalf of the independent directors. He’d be working towards board agendas, calling meetings and settings agenda for executive sessions.

Thompson would also be leading the performance evaluations for the CEO.

Ever since Nadella’s leadership, Microsoft has undergone some significant changes. It includes recovering from the failures in the mobile phone and internet search market. He also helped the company with the flagship for Windows operating system.

Over the years, Nadella has refocused the company’s goals around cloud computing and artificial intelligence. Along with a new outlook for the Office software franchise by moving towards cloud.
