Mancherial: Forest and environment Minister Jogu Ramanna and local legislator N Diwakar Rao had a narrow escape when the lift of a private hospital here slipped down to the ground floor from the first floor, on Monday.
The Minister and the MLA, however, did not receive injuries. The Minister went to the hospital to inaugurate it. They wanted to go to the third floor, but the lift slipped down.
Police and district authorities felt greatly relieved as no one was injured in the incident.
Mancherial DCP MS Venugopal Rao said that the cables of the lift snapped due to overloading of the lift. Apart from the Minister, MLA, many other public representatives were in the lift when it collapsed. “If the cables snapped when the lift was in either second or third floor, the occupants would have received injuries. The minister is fortunate to have had a close shave” a police official opined.
The Minister later attended all the scheduled events.
It may be recalled that six months back, a tent under which the minister attended a meeting, caught fire following bursting of crackers in Mancherial.(NSS)
