Minister serious on illegal mining in Vikarabad

Hyderabad: Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy today expressed serious displeasure at the officials for failing to check irregularities with regard to illegal mining and related activities in violation of norms. He conducted a review meeting on Vikarabad District Mineral Development Trust in Secretariat here, which was attended by MLAs Yadaiah, Sanjiva Rao, MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy and officials.

On the occasion the minister pulled up the officials for not able to check the illegal practices in spite of expiry of lease period. Cancel such licenses for illegal mining which will result in loss to the state government and initiate action against those involved, he directed the officials. Under any circumstances such illegal mining should not take place and the officials have to remain extra cautious to prevent it, he said. We will not tolerate if illegal mining goes on, he said. Stating that mining and other income in the district is put at Rs 47.81 crore, Mahender Reddy said that mining activity should be done strictly following norms and about 30 per cent of the funds should be used for development of pollution affected areas in the district. Any violation in this regard will be dealt with seriously, he warned.

The State Government has allotted Rs 2 cr for conducting the flagship Haritha Haram program in every Assembly Constituency, Mahender Reddy said. The officials should coordinate for expansion of greenery in the segment and use staff for protecting the saplings planted for creating better environment. The minister expressed discontent at the pathetic conditions of the schools lacking toilets. He directed the officials to give priority to construct better toilets in the schools, provide water facility by appointing staff. (NSS)
