Niranjan Asks Centre Clarity on Paddy

Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy today demanded that the Centre has to purchase paddy stocks from Telangana.

On the lines of buying from Punjab the Centre should pick up our paddy from Telangana state, he demanded. The centre cannot deny our demand to procure paddy and protect the interests of our farmers, he said.

Addressing a press conference here the Minister hit out at the centre for denying to procure paddy grains from the state. The Centre is telling with letters that not purchasing our grains is not correct, he objected.

Instead of writing letters, the Centre can directly tell our farmers about the same, the minister demanded. The Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that their godowns are full of stocks. There is no space to procure more from other states Nitin said he informed.

However, this is not correct as the centre was procuring paddy from Punjab state he said. It is ridiculous that the Centre is not able to take our paddy, he said. While the Centre gives money for the same to Punjab on weekdays it is giving us money in six months, he expressed displeasure. The Centre is buying boiled rice and should take the paddy stocks, he said.

Niranjan Reddy criticised that the Centre failed to shoulder its responsibility on paddy procurement. The Centre should release the rest of fertilizers and urea to our state as promised and to meet our requirements, he said. He said that of 6.4 lakh tonnes, it allotted 3.67 lakh tonnes and gave 1.55 lakh tonnes only so far and should release the rest of 2.12 lakh tones, he said.
