Niranjan Reddy Once Again Appeals to Farmers Against Paddy Cultivation

Telangana Agriculture Minister Niranjan Reddy today reiterated his appeal to the farmers of the State not to go in for paddy cultivation in the present  ‘Yasangi’ season, but opt for alternative crops.

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan here, he made it clear that farmers will be benefitted if they opt for other crops instead of paddy. The Minister said officials would educate the farmers on alternative crops. State MPs are fighting with the Centre on the issue of paddy purchase from the State, but the centre is not changing its attitude.

The centre is also delaying payment for the paddy procured. Though the state is not involved in the purchase of paddy, the state government is paying in advance to help the farmers.

The Minister said It is the responsibility of the centre to take the procured paddy without delay.  It was the centre that has introduced the Boiled Rice policy earlier. The Centre is adopting an opportunistic attitude. The Centre is weakening every public sector undertaking and it is planning to wind up the   FCI.  That is why the FCI is imposing restrictions on the procurement of paddy, he added.
