No more displaying of cast on vehicles in UP

Displaying caste on two-wheelers and four-wheelers in Uttar Pradesh will now be an invite to punitive action. In recent years it has become fashionable to write cast names like Jat, Yadav, Brahmin, pandit, Kshatriya, Lodhi, Gurjar, and Maurya on number plates or windscreen of the vehicles in Uttar Pradesh.

As per the orders given by Mukesh Chandra the Additional Transport Commissioner to all the Regional Transport Offices(RTOs) of Uttar Pradesh that all vehicles showcasing the caste on a number plate or windscreen are to be seized.

The transport department has launched the drive after receiving the instructions from the prime Minster’s office (PMO) source said that the PMO has knowledge; this matter after he received a letter from Harshal Prabhu a teacher in Maharashtra.

Harshal Prabhu in his letter wrote on IGRS, an integrated system designed for redressal of grievances. Mr. Harshal Prabhu Said the display of such stickers is a threat to the social fabric of society.

The Prime Minister’s office took note of the letter and sent it to the Uttar Pradesh government after which such a drive was launched by the Additional Transport Commissioner.

D>K Tripathi deputy transport commissioner, Kanpur said “According to our enforcement teams, every 20th vehicle is found carrying such a sticker. Our headquarters has asked us to take action against such vehicle owners,”

The practice of displaying caste on the vehicles was first started during the Samajwadi Party term when writing ‘Yasav’on the vehicles was considered as a status symbol.
Vehicles with ‘Jatav’ stickers became more visible during the Bahujan Samaj Party term even as such vehicles can be spotted today in some districts, especially in western Uttar Pradesh.

With the Yogi Adityanath government in power, it is now common for the people to display Kshatriya, Thakur, or Rajput as a label on their vehicles.
