Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai gets married to Pakistan cricket board manager

Announcing her wedding to the world, Malala Yousafzai posted pictures of the ceremony on Twitter. The wedding took place in Birmingham, United Kingdom at the couple’s “home”, the girls’ education activist mentioned in the caption.

The Nobel laureate shot to fame after getting shot allegedly by a Taliban terrorist back in 2012.

Malala got married to her partner Asser today, a member of the Pakistan cricket board. She shared images from the nikah which was a small intimate affair attended by the couple’s family members only. She requested her followers for their prayers and well wishes as she enters a new chapter of life.

“Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead,” Malala tweeted.

Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas took to Instagram to wish the couple. “Congratulations @malala Wishing you so much joy and happiness. You are an absolute vision!!” she posted on her Instagram stories.

Born and brought up in Pakistan until the age of 11, before she faced the bullets. The incident took place following her efforts to raise awareness for girl child education and their right to learn. She even had a blog published on BBC Urdu at the young age of 11. Her attempts to publicize this right and create awareness made her a target. The activist had said that in Pakistan “welcoming a baby girl is not always cause for celebration.”

Post the murder attempt, she was taken to a hospital in Pakistan and later shifted to one in Birmingham. She continued her activism work there after getting recovered from the head injury after several surgeries and rehabilitation in 2014.

During the same time, her family moved to the UK where she established Malala Fund with the help and aid of her father. The charity was set up to create opportunities for girls to accomplish their goals and receive education.

Her efforts were acknowledged by the world and she was also named as the “most prominent citizen” of Pakistan by the then-Prime Minister. In 2014, she was nominated for Nobel Prize and received her award in December that year. With it, she became the youngest-ever person to receive a Nobel Prize. Malala then continued her studies to further pursue the subjects of Politics, Economics and Philosophy. She graduated in 2020 from the University of Oxford.
