Official Rolling Up Sleeves to Take on Animal Visceral Organs Processing Units in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: After sealing some of the illegal animal visceral organs processing units earlier this month in the Jalpally area on Hyderabad city outskirts, the municipal authorities are now rolling up their sleeves to go the whole hog against the alleged wayward and polluting industries operating in a densely populated area and causing immense damage to the environment as well.

It is pertinent to mention here that the officials of Jalpally Municipality, anticipating an alarming threat to people’s health, had carried out raids on alleged illegal visceral organs processing units at Shahjahan Colony Hyderabad on 6th January. The officials even sealed a few of the units after finding them operating without proper permissions and flouting the norms thereby contributing to environmental damage.

Later, the Commissioner Jalpally Municipality G.P. Kumar informed that the factories are running without proper permissions and have found floating all the rules set to operate food processing industries. During the raid, he said, it was found that some factories are packing animal waste stuff in packets on which February 2021 has been mentioned as the manufacturing date.

The officials even found a number of such units operating in a similar way flouting the rules to the wind. The officials took serious note of the issue and hence decided to go the whole hog against these units after going into huddle with the senior officials of several line departments.

It is said that the Municipal Authorities, after going holding a meeting with the senior officials of various departments, have planned a strategy to take on these polluting industries which they said are hazardous in nature and will pose a grave risk to human life if not dealt with on time.

According to sources, the officials of different departments such as Municipality, Revenue and Pollution Control Board (PCB) will form a team to take on those illegal units that are contributing to air, surface, and groundwater pollution.

“There were some similar actions in the past by the authorities but no follow-up was done that helped these unscrupulous units brazenly mushroomed in the Jalpally area. These units used to process animal visceral organs without following the set procedures that to disguise in a densely populated area with unsettled and bumpy roads. Obscured from the eyes of government agencies these units are polluting the ambient environment,” said a local resident on the request of anonymity.  It is said that the officials take cognizance of the issue only after frequent complaints from the local people.
