Oppn. Raises Stink Over “Ek Shaam Charminar Ke Naam’ Program

Despite the objection raised against conducting Sunday-Funday program with fireworks at Tank Bund, the government has further extended it to Charminar with a theme of “Ek Shaam Charminar Ke Naam” much to the surprise of environment activists and the NGO fighting for pollution free environment.

Opposing the government’s move wherein it uses firework to bring incitement during the Sunday-Funday show at Tank Bund, an NGO called “Hyderabad Clean Air Network” has recently shoots a notice to three principal departments such as MA&UD, HMDA and TSPCB urging them to desist from polluting the ambient temperature of the area or else it would compel to initiate a legal action through public interest litigation.

Counsel for the petitioner Advocate B.V.Sheshagiri clearly mentioned in his notice that “Government agencies, while conducting such programs, must refrain from putting in place the measures in contravention to the National Green Tribunal orders and ensure that no set rules should be violated during the event. The notice called upon departments such as MA&UD, HMDA and TSPCB to ensure that no display of firework shows should be performed henceforth especially in programs sponsored by the government as this could lead to filling the ambient environment with pollution.

Meanwhile, The All India Majlis Inquilab-e-Millat (AIMIM-I) also criticized the government’s proposed move to conduct a similar program at Charminar from October 17. While responding to the post about the proposed program on twitter, the President of the Party Moulana Syed Tariq Quadri, asked the government “If the program was a tactic to divert people’s attention from its failure? At a time when the preservation of heritage structures like Osmania Hospital and Shifakhana Charminar became need of the hour due to the threat these old age monuments are carrying, the government’s move would surely cause an injury to the efforts to safeguard the heritage structures.”

“There is an urgent need for a campaign to drive the children to schools again as the pandemic whiplash has further accelerated the school dropout ration in the old city. It would help more if the government pores over the misery of Hyderabad Instead of playing behind hollow programs like Ek Shaam Charminar Ke Naam program,” he quipped.
