Owaisi Brings Hijab Row to UP Elections, Criticizes Pm Modi Over the Controversy

Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the AIMIM, has brought the ‘hijab’ controversy to the Uttar Pradesh elections and criticised PM Modi over the controversy.

“The BJP government forbids our daughters from wearing a hijab while studying, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks about empowering Muslim women with the triple talaq law.” “Is this his ‘BetiBachao, BetiPadhao’ campaign pitch?” Owaisi asked on Tuesday while campaigning in Sambhal.

Owaisi was referring to the controversy that erupted in January of this year at a government college in Udupi, Karnataka, when six girls wearing hijabs were told to leave campus.

Protests turned violent on Tuesday. The issue has spread to other parts of the state as well.

Owaisi said the Prime Minister spoke twice in Parliament but never addressed the situation in Karnataka. National data indicates that a lot of Muslim girls between three to 25 years of age have never been to school. This is what the Prime Minister is doing to those who want to get educated. Isn’t it a joke? he asked.

“It is now evening, and you wait; within minutes, all television channels will begin showing how Muslim women are oppressed in the name of hijab,” he added. Why are you so in love with our women? It’s none of your business what I wear, what my daughter wears, or what my wife wears. I won’t mind if you don’t dress at all.”

The AIMIM chief continued, “I salute Karnataka’s women. I tweeted about a burqa-clad woman entering into a saffron crowd and chanting ‘Allah Hu Akbar.’ This is the kind of courage that every Muslim should have.”

According to Owaisi, the incidents in Karnataka were a “grave violation” of the Constitution.

“Don’t vote for a king this time. Vote for development. Vote for AIMIM because it is the only party that does not regard you as a commodity to be remembered only during elections,” He continued.
