Police issue notices to MLA Raja Singh for hate speech; likely to face arrest

Shahinayatgunj and Mangalhaat police on Thursday issued notices to suspended BJP MLA in hate-speech related cases booked against him earlier this year.

In accordance with Section 41 of the CrPC (to be given prior to arrest), he was given notice. On August 22, the MLA was given bail for making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad.

A total of eight different cases have been filed against Raja Singh under sections 153-A, 188, 295-A, 298 505(1)(B)(C), 505(2), 506, 504, etc. of the IPC. He made similar statements on Prophet Muhammad to those made earlier by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. A team from the Shahinayathgunj police station issued him the notice, according to sources.

Raja Singh’s bail will likely be challenged by the city police in a Sessions Court. Due to a legal glitch, a lower court rejected the police’s remand on Tuesday.

According to sources, Raja Singh is likely to be arrested again today after his derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad sparked widespread violence.

The case will be argued before the court by a strong team of public prosecutors. A total of eight cases have been filed against Raja Singh with the Hyderabad and Cyberabad police. Regardless of whether the cases will be combined later, the MLA is likely to be arrested in any of the cases since it is the same offense of making insulting remarks about the Prophet Muhammad.

Ram Navami rally hate speech case from April

In April, the suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Goshamahal got bail for the provocative remarks he made during a Ram Navami rally.

He spoke about the alleged boycott of Hindu vendors in the Old City during Ramzan. He said if Hindus were to target the traitors (Muslims) similarly, they would run out of business and would not even be in a position to beg as even alms are given to the poor by Hindus.

A complaint was filed by G Madhusudhan against Raja Singh for disrupting public peace and tranquility, and also for causing traffic jams in the procession route.

Hindutva DJ Kartik, whose music was being played in the presence of Raja Singh, saw explicit calls for the formation of a Hindu state as well as veiled threats against the country’s minorities.

One of the songs Raja Singh dances to says, “Kashi aur Mathura main bhi jhanda ab lehrana hain.” (Flags need to be raised at Kashi and Mathura as well.) In addition, the song says, “Hindu virodhiyon ko ab khoon ke aasu rulana hain.” (Enemies of Hindus will be made to cry tears of blood.)
