Punjab Imposes Night Curfew Amidst Upcoming Third Covid 19 Wave

Amidst the rise of Covid 19 cases, the Punjab government has decided to impose a night curfew across the state every day from 10 pm to 5 am. They have further ordered the closure of all the educational institutions until January 15.

Educational Institutions Expected To Maintain Online Teaching 

Meanwhile, the educational institutions that include schools, universities, colleges, and coaching centres, are expected to run the academic schedule online. However, the medical and nursing colleges are exempted and may continue to function normally.

Principal Secretary (home) Anurag Verma said in a notification that only the people who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to attend the government and private offices, working spaces, factories, and industries. No service will be provided to anyone without wearing proper face masks.

The guidelines have also been extended to the bars, cinema halls, multiplexes, malls, restaurants, museums, zoos, etc., will be allowed to operate with 50 percent capacity and the staff must be fully vaccinated.

The air-conditioned buses will run with 50 percent capacity, it added.

Covid In Punjab 

This comes after Cabinet Minister Raj Kumar confirmed that 100 students of the Patiala Medical College in Punjab had tested positive for Covid 19. While further information on the matter is awaited, the students were asked to leave their hostel room immediately.

Following the surge in cases of Covid 19, the states of Punjab, Haryana and Union Territory Chandigarh have decided to conduct hearings virtually from January 5.

Currently, the government has already urged the people who have not been vaccinated to stay indoors. Furthermore, with 417 fresh cases and three deaths reported on Sunday, the state might be heading towards the third wave of Covid 19.
