Qatar, Afghanistan agree on direct flights between Doha-Kabul

According to officials, the Afghan and Qatar governments have reached an agreement to begin direct flights between Kabul and Doha.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation stated that Afghan and Qatar airlines will be operating flights to Doha-Kabul each week based on a mutual agreement, according to TOLO News.

“The Islamic Emirate and Qatar have reached an agreement to begin flights between Doha and Kabul. The Afghan airlines will fly to Doha, while Qatar airlines will fly to Kabul,” said Ministry spokesman Imamuddin Ahmadi on Wednesday.

Experts believe that the launch of flights between Kabul and Doha will boost Afghanistan’s aviation industry.

“The beginning of flights from Qatar to Afghanistan and from Afghanistan to Qatar is a significant step forward for Afghanistan aviation,” said Sayed Masoud, an economist, to TOLO News.

Mohammad Qassim Wafayizada, the former head of the Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (ACAA), stated that the flights would help reduce ticket prices and improve aviation services in the country.

“It can be useful because Afghanistan depends upon two main transit hubs like the United Arab Emirates and Turkey for aviation. Qatar Airways is a well-known airline that is permitted to fly to 173 destinations “He said.

As per Wafayizada, Kabul and Doha signed an agreement on bilateral air aviation cooperation agreement in 2005, but due to political issues, direct flights between the two countries were not established.

After talks between the two sides earlier on Tuesday, Qatar agreed with the Taliban to resume chartered evacuation flights from the Kabul airport.

Meanwhile, officials from Turkey, Qatar, and the Taliban reached an agreement on several key issues concerning the management and operation of Kabul Airport during a trilateral meeting.
