Qatar’s Hamad International Airport Named ‘World’s Best Airport’

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has been named the ‘World’s Best Airport’ by Skytrax World Airport Awards 2024, overtaking Singapore’s Changi Airport, which has held the title 12 times.

Skytrax, a UK-based review site, conducts an annual survey of global travelers to rank the world’s best airports. Hamad International Airport won the top spot for its modern design, easy-to-navigate terminals, and luxury shopping options.

Singapore held the title in 2023 and 2020, while Doha was recognized as the best airport in 2022 and 2021.

Qatar Airways Group CEO, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, stated that the achievement marks a milestone for Hamad International Airport, celebrating its 10th anniversary of operational excellence and connecting passengers worldwide. He emphasized the airport’s commitment to providing passengers with an exceptional travel experience through continuous investments in facilities and innovations in retail and hospitality.

In 2023, Hamad International Airport experienced a 31 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to 2022, serving over 45 million passengers. This figure surpassed the momentum seen during the FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar.

Dubai International Airport in the UAE ranked seventh, climbing from 17th place last year.

Other top-ranking airports include Incheon in South Korea, which took third place and was also named the most family-friendly airport in 2024. Tokyo’s airports, Haneda and Narita, secured fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

Hong Kong airport made significant strides, jumping 22 positions to 11th place as passenger numbers increased post-COVID-19. Meanwhile, American airports did not feature prominently at the top of the list, with Seattle-Tacoma falling six places to 24th.

European airports remained strong contenders in the rankings, with Paris Charles de Gaulle, Munich, Zurich, and Istanbul all securing positions in the top 10.
