Renewable energy capacity rose to 5400 MW in Telangana: TSREDCO chairman

Y Sathish Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO), stated that the state’s renewable energy capacity has increased to 5400 MW. He also stated that the capacity in 2014 was only 70 MW.

Reddy announced the increase in renewable energy at TSREDCO’s ‘Investment Bazaar for Energy Efficiency,’ which took place on Monday.

The event was held to bring together all stakeholders and share best practices in energy efficiency as well as financing options for energy efficiency projects. TSREDCO, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency co-organized the event (BEE).

On September 19, government and private officials, including administrators from energy service companies, financial institutions, and original equipment manufacturers, attended the event.

Sathish Reddy, speaking on the occasion, stated that the state government was committed to bringing about rapid change in the energy sector by encouraging energy efficiency investments.

At the time of Telangana’s formation in 2014, the renewable energy capacity was only around 70 MW, but it has since grown to 5400 MW.

He also stated that energy efficiency is a powerful and cost-effective way to meet rising energy demands. He added that the TSREDCO is moving forward with the construction of a net zero energy office building of 2591 square meters in size, a first of its kind and fully environment friendly office building.

This accomplishment is solely due to the State government’s commitment, led by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, to encouraging sustainable practices in power generation and energy conservation.

The platform was said to have played an important role in bringing together financial institutions and industries for discussions on energy-efficient projects.

It is also worth noting that Telangana intends to add approximately 50 MW of solar capacity through the rooftop model in the near future. The state already has approximately 260 MW.
