Rs 16 lakh allocated by Telangana govt to promote normal deliveries

Aiming to encourage normal deliveries rather than cesarean sections in government hospitals, the State government has released Rs 16 lakh in August to fund incentives for doctors, nurses, and field staff, including ASHAs and ANMs, who encouraged pregnant women and conducted normal deliveries, said State Health Minister, T Harish Rao.

As a result of efforts to promote normal deliveries in government hospitals, the number of C-sections has dropped from 62 percent to 56 percent in recent months. The State government aims to reduce the percentage of C-sections to 40 percent in the coming months.

A total of 54 ultrasound machines with Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomalies (TIFA) features that enable caregivers to determine whether the unborn is growing normally will be made available to all major tertiary and secondary maternity healthcare facilities within the next two weeks, Harish Rao, the State Health Minister, announced on Monday.

Training is currently being provided to healthcare workers across several maternity facilities on handling ultrasound scanners with TIFA features.

Harish Rao said that a 250-bed Mother and Child Health facility would be inaugurated in the next few months.
