Salman khan apologized for submitting a false affidavit in blackbuck killing case

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan apologized for ‘mistakenly’ submitting a misleading affidavit during his hearing in the blackbuck poaching case in Jodhpur Sessions Court in 2003.

In 2018, the trial court convicted Salman Khan and pronounced five-year imprisonment to him over the killing of two blackbucks.

The incident happened in October 1998 during the shooting of the movie ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’. Salman Khan was apprehended in 1998 for hunting two blackbucks in a village called Kankani near Jodhpur.

At that time, a case under Arms Act was registered and the trial court asked Salman Khan to submit his arms license. In 2003, Salman submitted an affidavit in the court, saying that he had lost his arms license. Salman also lodged an FIR at the Bandra police station in Mumbai in this connexion.

Nevertheless, later the Court learnt that Salman’s arm license was not lost, but was submitted for renewal. Bhavani Singh Bhati, the public prosecutor had then demanded that a case of misleading the court shall be filed against the actor.

Salman had challenged the trial court verdict in the Sessions Court. The actor appeared before the Jodhpur Sessions Court through video conferencing for the hearing of his appeal against conviction in the blackbuck poaching case. Salman’s advocate Hastimal Saraswat submitted before the court that the affidavit submitted to the court on August 8, 2003, was submitted mistakenly and Salman should be pardoned.

In the course of the hearing, Salman’s lawyer Saraswat said, “The affidavit was mistakenly given on August 8, 2003, as Salman had forgotten that his license was given for renewal because he was too busy. Therefore, he mentioned that the license had gone missing in the court.”

The verdict in the case will be declared on Thursday.
