SC refuses to intervene in Telangana polls, Asks HC to settle related issues

Hyderabad: Even as the Election Commission has speeded up the process and arrangements for conducting polls in Telangana, the Apex Court of India has directed High Court to hear the case on Friday pertaining to voters list and missing voters and related anomalies.

The Court verdict gets significance as it asked the High Court to extend the date for setting right the issues of the Voters list in Telangana. The EC has announced earlier that the final draft proposals will be published in the first week of the October. The High Court will take up the case on Friday and is likely to give verdict on the issue of bogus votes, removal of the voters and any others.

The Supreme Court was hearing on the petitioner, who sought that the lakhs of names of the eligible voters have been deleted from the electoral list has asked him to go to the High Court instead of coming over to Delhi. The SC has observed that the High Court has already looked into similar cases and set aside this case can be taken up in the State level itself.

The petitioner further appealed to extend the date to give chance to eligible new voters to participate in the poll process as per Constitutional norms. Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy sought stay order against the early polls as there was a need to check the veracity of the voters and giving vote chance to the eligible. The court said that the High Court in the State can take any decision and set the issues right as per procedures. (NSS)
