Several roads flood as first monsoon rains lash Hyderabad

Several areas of Hyderabad were flooded on Wednesday following a few hours of heavy rain. Traffic was backed up in several parts of the city because of waterlogging. Videos of flooded roads were shared on social media by Denizens.

It was asked by the people that if roads were flooding in the early phases of the monsoon, what would happen later? Some even requested that KTR fix the issue as soon as possible before the rainy season began.

Several complaints came in from the Old City area, which received 50mm of rain on Wednesday morning.

Chandrayanagutta experienced a maximum rainfall of 54.3mm, while Rajendranagar and Falaknuma received 40mm of rain. The Nala overflowed in these areas, and water entered low-lying areas of houses.

Near the Zoo Park, the Macca Colony in Ramnaspura was completely flooded. On Twitter, residents posted several flood videos and said, “Converting an open nala into a box drain is a bad idea.”

A lot of money was spent by the GHMC to resolve flooding in this area but to no avail. GHMC workers were pressed into service and the roads were cleared within hours.

In Rajendranagar, as in previous years, the worst flooding was on Ring Road in Upperpally. Videos of waterlogging below the PVNR Expressway went viral.

Despite repeated pleas from citizens, activist Sai Koushik expressed disappointment that the issue remained unresolved. Using the video he shared, he tweeted, “Please provide a permanent solution at pillar no.191 PVNR Expressway (below).”

Roads were submerged, making it difficult for people to commute to work and school.

The GHMC workers struggled to clear water from the main roads. A local corporator visited Bahadurpura.

Meanwhile, according to an RTI petition filed by activist SQ Masood to the GHMC, none of the 36 projects undertaken under the Strategic Nala Development Plan (SNDP) in the LB Nagar, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad zones of the GHMC has been completed.
