Shocking- Over 40 dead bodies found floating on Ganga river in Bihar

Amid a horrific tale coming from the northern state of Bihar, around 40-45 dead bodies have been found floating in the river Ganges’ waters. Residents of the Chausa town woke up this morning with terror in their eyes on the sight of dozens of decomposed and bloated bodies on the banks of the river.

The incident took place early in the morning today in Bihar’s Buxar. The region shares the border with neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh.

The local administration was informed of the pile of bodies after people raised alarms. They say that the bodies might have flowed down from Uttar Pradesh and reached Bihar, adding that they believe these to be covid patients whose relatives find resources and space to bury or cremate them and hence threw in Ganga.

Standing at the Mahadeva Ghat of Chausa and watching the frightful view, district official Ashok Kumar said, “Some 40-45 bodies were seen floating.” It seems like the bodies were intentionally thrown in the waters, he added. According to some people, there might be around 100 bodies in the pile.

KK Upadhyay, another official of the area said, “They are bloated and have been in the water for at least five to seven days. We need to investigate where they are from, which town in UP.”

The news spread like fire and the town and surrounding areas are engulfed with panic due to the possibility of infections from the bodies and the river water, given that it is highly contaminated now.

Speaking to the media, a villager named Narendra Kumar said, “People are terrified of getting Covid. We have to bury the bodies.”

“A district administration official came and said they would pay ₹ 500 for cleaning up the bodies,” he added.

The incident has sparked an argument between the two states- Uttar Pradesh and Bihar- as they are blaming each other for the bodies. The blame game began as the tragic incident puts light on the current covid situation and the inability of the government to make enough attempts to control it.

The devastating healthcare sector in the two states might also have added up to today’s incident.

India continues to register record high cases after crossing the 3 lakh mark and then the 4 lakh mark within no time in its disastrous second wave of coronavirus. The nation has reported over 2.3 crore cases and more than 2.5 lakh deaths since the pandemic began.
