Shocking: Woman forced to remove burqa in Bhopal

In a disturbing incident from Madhya Pradesh, a group of people forced a woman riding pillion on a scooter with a man to remove her burqa and hijab. The person who pressurized the crying lady to do so also captured a video of the day and shared it on social media, triggering massive backlash and criticism from users.

Shockingly, the two accused men who can be seen in the videos were let off by the police with a mere warning that they shouldn’t repeat the act.

The incident took place in Bhopal’s Islam Nagar when the woman was riding pillion with a man on a scooter. They were stopped by some people on a narrow street and forcibly made to remove the burqa she was wearing. The woman, visibly crying and protesting against the demand, was also criticized by a man when they discovered that she was wearing a pair of jeans underneath her burqa.

“Ohho, jeans mei,” he can be heard saying, further asking his other supporters to take the burqa away from her. They also demand her to remove her face covering or hijab, which she does not after the person she was riding with refuses to make her do so. After getting hold of the burqa, he displays it infront of the camera with great pride in having seized it from the woman.

Women can also be seen in the clips while a man says that the woman in question is a “disgrace” to the community.

According to the police, the mob believed that the woman was travelling with a Hindu man, hence they proceeded to forcibly stop the scooter they were riding.

Speaking about the incident, police officer RS Verma said, “A man and the woman came to Islam Nagar in the afternoon. Some people stopped them and asked her to take off her hijab and show her face. It is suspected that the people believed the man was Hindu and the girl Muslim.”

Only preventive measures have been taken in the matter and no case has been filed, he said, adding that the two men who were seen stopping the scooter were detained and later allowed to go.

The case of moral policing has angered social media users while some are seen defending the inhuman act.

A similar incident was witnessed in Bengaluru last month when a video surfaced showing two people assaulting a man. The men lashed out at the bank employee because he let his Muslim woman colleague ride pillion on his motorcycle with him.
