State Govt Wants Center to Form Telangana Army Regiment

The State government has written a letter to Union Defense Minister and urged him to form an Indian Army infantry regiment in Telangana. It also urged the center to name it as Telangana Army infantry regiment.

The Vice-Chairman of Telangana State Planning Commission B. Vinod Kumar wrote the letter to Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the issue.

In his letter, he highlighted the need to form the regiment. He told Singh that there used to be a 19th British Indian army regiment after the name of Hyderabad before the independence of the country.

He also told the union minister that the Hyderabad regiment took part in the first world war and the Second World War. The regiment also took part in the Middle East, Persia, Malaya, Singapore, and Burma wars too.

He said that the present army regiment was part of both AP and Telangana states and added that it was creating problems in several issues.
