Tamil Nadu Government Promotes Students from Class 1 to 8; Class 12 Board Exams Dates Awaited

With the ongoing pandemic and the delay in examinations, Tamil Nadu’s Director of Elementary Education has come to a decision. He announced that students from Class 1 to 8 across the schools will be promoted for the academic year 2020-21.

Tamil Nadu To Announce More Details On Schools Reopening and Sources Soon 

As per the latest reports, the office of the director of elementary education said that the decision to promote students from Class 1 to 8 is in accordance with the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009.

The Director also directed the officials of the School Education Department to inform all the government, government-aided and private state board schools under their jurisdiction to promote all students of Class 1 to Class 8.

The state of Tamil Nadu follows a no-detention policy for students up to Class 8. Under this, no student can be held back in any class or be expelled while they are in elementary school. The same also comes under the Section 16 of the RTE Act.
Since the state is currently under strict lockdown, details regarding reopening of the schools, distribution of free books and other materials and resources will be released later.

Tamil Nadu Announced All-Pass Policy For Classes 9 to 11

Back in February this year, the Tamil Nadu promoted all the students from Class 9 to 11. And the board exams for Class 12 students were also postponed. The students are currently waiting for the exam dates.
Mythili Karunakaran, a Physics teacher, working with the Tamil Nadu education department said that the government may take a decision regarding class 12 board exams when the Covid 19 cases fall down. And the decision will be taken only after consultations with health officials and experts.
Recently two people from Tamil Nadu succumbed to the black fungus infection in Tamil Nadu.
