Tamilisai of Congress family joined BJP due to its ideals

Hyderabad: The newly appointed Governor of Telangana State Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan is also Tamilian like her predecessor ESL Narasimhan. She is a Doctor by profession and had worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College before foraying into politics. She shot into fame as leading BJP leader of Tamil Nadu within a short time.

Tamilisai was born on June 2, 1961 at Nagarkoil of Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. She is daughter of Kumari Anandan, a former MP and a veteran Congress leader. Her husband is Dr Soundararajan, also a prominent doctor and member of Indian Medical Research Council. Tamilisai completed her MBBS at Madras Medical College. Later she completed her PG in Gynecology from MGR University of Health Sciences.

Later, Tamilisai underwent a special training in Sonology, FET at Canada. Although she belonged to a family of Congress leaders, she joined the BJP attracted by its ideals and worked in many capacities. In the year 2001, she became State general secretary of Health Wing of the party. In the year 2005, Tamilisai became All India co-convenor of the medical wing for southern States before becoming the State party secretary in the year 2007. She became national general secretary of the party in the year 2013. She is now working as State BJP president.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan lost in all her attempts at becoming an MP or MLA till date. She contested two Assembly elections and Parliament elections unsuccessfully. She vigorously campaigned in the recent Parliament elections. (NSS)
