Telangana at forefront in taking strict measures to prevent cyber crimes: DGP

Director General of Police Anjani Kumar said on Wednesday that the Telangana Police force is at the forefront of the country in taking strict measures to prevent cyber crimes and ensure cyber safety.

An official release said that he spoke at an online conference on Cyber Security-2023 organized by Global Counter Terrorism Council and Digital India from New Delhi.

Telangana is the first state to establish a Cyber Safety Bureau to investigate and prevent cyber crimes, he said, noting that around 600 leading IT companies belong to the state, including Microsoft.

“Around 600 leading IT companies of the world including Microsoft have been established in Hyderabad and around 10 lakh IT employees and professionals working here. We are taking all measures to curb and detect cybercrimes as well,” he said.

The number of cyber crimes has increased worldwide, according to top police official. A total of 2,691 cyber-based cases were reported in Telangana in 2019, 5024 cases in 2020, 10,303 cases in 2021, and 15,217 cases in 2022.

Cyber Security Bureau was formed specifically to address cyber security challenges. At the Integrated Command and Control Center, 500 officers and staff were appointed.

The DGP said the Telangana Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (T4C), which has already been formed, is playing an important role in combating cybercrime.

To combat cyber crime, the DGP said every district of the state has formed cyber crime investigation teams and trained police officials as cyber warriors in 800 police stations to prevent cyber crime.

In terms of cyber-based financial crimes, the Telangana Police have successfully stopped Rs 65 crores after being alerted by the public via toll free number 1930.
