Telangana Budget Session to commence from March 7

As per the latest reports, the budget session of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly and the Council will begin on March 7. The State Cabinet meeting will be held at Pragathi Bhavan at 5 pm on March 6.

Following a high-level meeting with his Cabinet colleagues on Monday at Pragathi Bhavan, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao made the decision. The meeting is being attended by IT Minister KT Rama Rao, Finance Minister T Harish Rao, Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, and other officials.

The budget will be presented in the Assembly by Harish Rao.

A decision on the day for presenting the budget will be made soon, and the Business Advisory Committee, which will meet on the first day of the session, will decide on the number of days that the Assembly and Council will function during the budget session.

There will be no joint address by Governor Tamilsai Soundararajan this time, which is interesting as Article 176(1) of the Indian Constitution requires the Governor to address both Houses assembled together at the start of the first session after each general election to the Assembly and at the start of the first session of each year and to tell the Legislature of the reasons for its summons.

In the last seven years, the main focus of the State Budget has been “welfare.” This time, greater emphasis will be placed on welfare, as the State government intends to allocate almost Rs 20,000 crore to the Dalit Bandhu initiative.

A further Rs 7,000 crore will be granted to the ‘Mana Ooru Mana Badi’ scheme. In the Budget 2022-23, welfare allocations are likely to reach Rs 70,000 crore.
