Telangana CM KCR Asserts Religious Gurus Should Limit Involvement in Politics and Opine on Uniform Civil Code

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, commonly known as KCR, claimed that religious gurus have no role in politics and should limit their involvement in political concerns or voicing comments on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He accused the federal government of politicising religious figures. KCR made these statements at a news conference following the opening of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) office in Nagpur and a party meeting to boost the party’s presence in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha area.

The Law Commission’s appeal for public opinions and ideas on the Uniform Civil Code, including those from recognised religious organisations, triggered KCR’s comments. When asked about the UCC, KCR questioned religious leaders’ engagement in politics, suggesting that they should focus on administering religious institutions and performing religious rites rather than causing disruptions by entering politics. He further stated that seers have no participation in matters concerning the Uniform Civil Code and should stay within their religious institutions. KCR stated that the BRS would address the Uniform Civil Code when Prime Minister Modi introduces it, emphasising the party’s commitment to bringing about change in the country.

Regarding the BJP-led federal government’s exploitation of central agencies, KCR criticised their conduct and expressed concern about power privatisation. When questioned if the BRS is the “B team of the BJP,” he refuted the concept, stating that the party’s focus is on serving the public and working for their benefit. He further stated that no decision has been made regarding his attendance in the opposition meeting in Patna on June 23.
