Telangana: Election Commission to visit state to assess election readiness

From June 22 to June 24, an Election Commission of India (ECI) delegation led by Dharmendra Sharma, Senior Deputy Election Commissioner, and Deputy Election Commissioners, along with senior officers, will visit the city. The EC team will assess election preparations and provide necessary instructions to state electoral authorities.

On Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj met with Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar to discuss the State’s election preparations. The purpose of the meeting was to inform District Collectors and Superintendents of Police about the upcoming elections to the state Legislative Assembly. The CEO stated that the EC team will first meet with CEO Telangana, Special Police Nodal Officer, and CAPF Nodal Officer.

These discussions will provide an opportunity to share insights and strategies on election security issues.

Following that, the ECI delegation will meet with District Collectors/SPs and various enforcement agencies such as the Income Tax (CBDT), NCB, Excise Department, State GST and CGST Department, Enforcement Directorate, State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC), DRI, RPF, CISF, and State Commercial Tax Department. This collaborative effort seeks to promote coordination at the state and district levels in order to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The DGP emphasized the importance of district police officers in ensuring a safe and smooth election. He highlighted the significance of having sufficient manpower and directed officers to map border check posts while facilitating cross-functional training with agencies such as the Income Tax and GST departments.

Key officials in attendance included Sanjay Jain, Additional DG and Special Police Nodal Officer (SPNO), Swathi Lakra, Additional DG, Shah Nawaz Khan, IG, and others.
