Telangana Elections: Election Commission team reaches Hyderabad to assess preparedness

A high-level officials team from the Election Commission of India today began discussions with the representatives of political parties in Telangana state over preparedness for holding Assembly elections.

The team headed by Senior Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha convened separate meetings with the representatives of the recognised political parties in Hyderabad.

The team reached Hyderabad this evening on a two-day study visit to assess the preparedness of the state for holding the Assembly elections following the dissolution of its Assembly.

Conducting early elections, revision of electoral rolls and preparedness of the administration are among the issues which came up for discussion.

The main opposition parties including BJP and left parties have raised their concern over the removal of over 30 lakh voters from the electoral rolls and not circulating the draft rolls till now.

The representatives of the opposition parties informed media that they also requested the Election Commission not to be hasty in holding the elections without addressing the issues relating to electoral lists.

The high-level team meetings with the political parties are continuing.

The high-level team will meet the senior officials in the state government including the Chief Secretary.
