Telangana: Farmers to receive training in drone operation

Agriculture is one of the few industries that has been exposed to rapid change as a result of the use of modern technology. The agricultural sector is rapidly mechanizing.

Though a variety of equipment has been introduced to aid in the cultivation process due to a shortage of farm labourers, another gadget known as a ‘drone’ has now been introduced to the sector.

Pesticides, for example, will be sprayed using drones. Prof Jayashankar Agriculture University has decided to train farmers in drone operation as part of its plans, and the university is likely to establish a ‘drone academy’ for this purpose.

Following completion of the training, farmers would be issued licenses with the designation of ‘drone operator,’ allowing the trained farmers to spray pesticides on crops.

Farmers would be trained in spraying without harming animals, birds, or the environment, in addition to mixing the appropriate amount of water with pesticides, according to agriculture scientists.

Though the procedure for the training program has not yet been finalized, it will be delivered through Krishi Vigyan Kendras.

Since agriculture scientists are not experts in drone operation, they have asked manufacturing companies that will supply drones to the government to train farmers in addition to setting up servicing centres for regular drone maintenance.

The State government was also offering a 50% subsidy if anyone purchased a drone in order to encourage its use in the farm sector. A few farmer-producer organizations have already expressed interest in purchasing the technology.

Drone manufacturing companies must have a type certificate and a UIN number. According to scientists, only two companies, IoTechWorld and Garuda Aerospace, met these criteria. Garuda Aerospace representatives demonstrated drones twice at Jammikunta’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

Jammikunta KVK coordinator Venkateshwar Rao was reported as saying that while they had not yet received clear guidelines about the training to be provided, higher officials were on the job.

During Yasangi, they were given a target of 250 hectares to carry out drone demonstrations. He stated that they had submitted an application for the approval of a drone and expressed confidence that it would be completed by January or February.

Despite the fact that two farmers, one from Bethigal in Veenavanka mandal and another from Dandepalli in Elkathurthi mandal, were using drones to spray pesticides, they may not be trained.

He stated that it was mandatory to take precautions when spraying pesticides, and that it should not harm animals, birds, or the environment.
