Telangana: Government hospitals prepare for Covid mock drill

According to the latest reports, the Government hospitals in Hyderabad and the districts will take part in a special mock drill being organized to take stock of the readiness in the event of a surge of Covid infections in the coming months.

The mock drill, which was the suggestion of the union Health Ministry, will be taken up at all government hospitals involved in treating Covid patients in the previous three Covid waves.

The mock drill will take place in Hyderabad at Gandhi Hospital, District Hospital in King Koti, Erragadda Chest Hospital, and Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) in Gachibowli.

“It will be a stock-taking exercise for us. Our healthcare workers have vast experience in handling Covid patients. In fact, we were the first to successfully treat Covid patients in Telangana. All the necessary medical equipment, including ventilators, beds with the supply of medical oxygen, BiPAP machines and RT-PCR testing capabilities of our laboratories will be checked,” Gandhi Hospital Superintendent Dr M Raja Rao said.

Aside from the medical infrastructure, the hospitals will also be focusing on healthcare workers, such as nurses, ASHA workers, and ventilator technicians, who previously had received training in handling Covid cases and played an important role in the three successive waves in Telangana.

“All aspects of treating Covid patients, including medical oxygen, essential drugs, ventilators, trained healthcare staff, checking oxygen-generating plants and bed capacity, among others, will be reviewed. Essentially, the exercise will be aimed at readying our hospital to treat Covid patients,” Chest Hospital Superintendent Dr Mahaboob Khan said.

Hyderabad is set to get three super specialty hospitals

On Tuesday, similar mock drills will be held at all Telangana tertiary government teaching hospitals, paediatric healthcare facilities, and district hospitals, according to senior health officials.

It is also worth noting that people in Hyderabad are rushing to vaccination centres in response to growing concerns about Covid. Since most people have already received doses 1 and 2, precautionary doses are in high demand in the city.

Despite the fact that the daily Covid case count in Hyderabad is in the single digits, people are concerned due to an increase in cases in many countries, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

According to the state government’s daily bulletin, people prefer to get the Covid vaccine at government vaccination centres in Hyderabad; however, in recent days, private vaccination centres have seen a surge in demand.
