Telangana Governor Rejects BRS Nominations, Sparks Controversy

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavitha has accused Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan of breaking the federal spirit by rejecting the state cabinet’s request to nominate BRS leaders Dasoju Sravan and K Satyanarayana to the Legislative Council under the governor’s quota.

Kavitha contended that both leaders are from the lower classes, and the governor’s decision paints the BJP as an anti-lower classes party. She voiced alarm over governors’ actions in several states, raising issues about whether the country is running under the Indian Constitution or the BJP Constitution.

Kavitha, a Telangana Legislative Council member and the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, stressed that the governor’s rejection of these nominations goes against long-held traditions. She said that the Chief Minister had selected these figures, who had not won direct elections, in order to provide them a political platform. She feels, however, that the governor’s decision demonstrates the BJP’s contempt for the underprivileged.

Furthermore, Kavitha chastised the BJP for not treating backward classes fairly in the Women’s Reservation Bill and accused the party of impeding the political development of BC politicians.

The Telangana Governor rejected the state cabinet’s plan to fill the governor’s quota with Dasoju Sravan and K Satyanarayana. The refusal was predicated on the fact that the two were regarded “politically aligned persons” and did not fit the requirements of Article 171(5) of the Indian Constitution. The Raj Bhavan proposed that non-politically linked persons be considered for such nominations in order to honor their accomplishments in the categories indicated in Article 171(5).
