Telangana Govt Forbids Registration of Waqf Properties

In a significant move for the security of Waqf properties, the government of Telangana has forbidden their registration to leave no space for unapproved transfers.

Waqf properties have been added in the list which will be placed under “auto-lock” on the destined to-be-launched Dharani Portal for online registration of properties over the state.

Waqf, endowment and government grounds will be put under “auto-lock”, subsequently disabling online registration module for such properties.

The government provided a request, forbidding enrolment of Waqf properties under section 22-An of the Registration Act, 1908.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Telangana State Waqf Board has been led to furnish the list of every single Waqf property to the Managing Director, Dharani Portal/Inspector General (Registration and Stamps) for putting them under “auto-lock”.

The administration has additionally requested municipal corporations, gram panchayats, and municipalities not to give grants for construction in Waqf properties, other than those approved by the Minorities Welfare Department.

The Government Order was given after a declaration in this regard by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in the Assembly during the recent meeting session.

He gave the affirmation when All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) head Akbaruddin Owaisi, during a discussion on the new Revenue Act, raised the subject of Waqf properties.

He affirmed that Waqf lands worth thousands of crores in Hyderabad and different sections of the state were infringed throughout the long term. He looked for a prohibition on the registration of Waqf properties to secure them.

Then, Akbaruddin Owaisi and different officials of his party on Thursday went to a gathering assembled by the Chief Minister to talk about the implementation of the new Revenue Act.
