Telangana govt to provide 24 lakh students with free textbooks, notebooks, uniforms

The State government will provide free textbooks, notebooks, and uniforms to over 24 lakh students on the rolls in government schools in the state, Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy said here on Wednesday.

During a review meeting with Education Department officials at the Secretariat, she stated that the free distribution of textbooks and notebooks, which would cost Rs.200 crore this year, was made possible by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s generous approach to the development of the State’s education sector.

Last year, the Telangana government spent Rs.138 crore on textbook and notebook distribution. Workbooks would also be provided to children in primary schools.

Supplies will be made based on the requirement of notebooks for students in high schools.

This year, students would receive bilingual textbooks. In addition, the Minister requested that the department provide all students with two pairs of school uniforms.

It was reported that the uniforms were being provided to the students at a cost of Rs 150 crore.
